Discipleship I & II - Confirmation Program
Discipleship I & II denote the Faith Formation program designed for candidates preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and therefore enter more fully into the life of the Church. This two-year preparation usually begins in Grade 9. Members of our discipleship program meet twice per month on designated Tuesdays in Sacred Heart Church hall. Discipleship I meet on alternating Tuesdays from 6 pm-7:15 pm. Discipleship II candidates meet from 7:30 pm -8:45 pm . Confirmation requirements include 20 hours of service, preferably in the candidate’s parish, and the completion of the service form, attendance at the Discipleship retreat, completion of the Sponsor form, choosing of a Saint’s Name to represent the call to a new life in the Spirit, and a letter to the Bishop requesting the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Confirmation Sponsor Form - Each candidate should print out, have completed and return to the collaborative parishes the sponsor form.
Letter to Bishop - All candidates are to write a letter to Bishop Dooher including an introduction of themselves, description of their journey to the sacrament of Confirmation, explanation of their choice of saint and discussion of how they will continue to live their lives in the Catholic church.
Service Opportunities: Throughout the year, there are many opportunities for Christian service in which candidates are invited to participate for service hours. See sidebar for list of opportunities.
NOTE: If you are involved in Christian service programs outside the parish. Contact Maureen or Carolyn to discuss how these programs meet the Confirmation requirement for Christian service hours, which usually are spent in the parish setting.
Discipleship II Service Form - As you prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next year, one of the ways our Church calls us to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ is by performing acts of service for others. In order to strengthen your commitment to a lifetime of service in the name of Our Lord, our parish requires that you fulfill 20 hours of service hours prior to the reception of the Confirmation. There are many ways that your time and talent can be shared with others.
NOTE: As stated in the Canon of the Catholic Church, the Sacrament of Confirmation must be received in the parish setting. Any students attending a Catholic high school and desiring to receive the sacrament must complete a parish registration form and attend sessions in their parish.
